Mathias Hornung

After graduating from high school and completing an apprenticeship as machine mechanic, Hornung studied stage and costume design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart- Weissenhof with Peter Grau and Jürgen Rose between 1988 and 1993. Hornung’s research reveals visual connections between traditional wood printing technology and digital order patterns. The materials, which Mathias Hornung uses are paper and the wood into which he mills the cuts that will later be used for printing - printing and the printing block are equal, they correspond and communicate with each other.

He has lived and worked in Berlin since 1992. Between 2004 and 2007 he worked in Canada, Costa Rica, Elba/Italy and Indonesia, and held exhibitions in France, USA, Canada, Belgium, Spain , Austria and South Africa.
